There´s a Little Bit of Haven at Home

Southport was having a Carnival so Alex, Katie and the kids decieded to go on the opening day. . Kevin eventually got to Southport.  After a fun day in the Carnival, the family went back to Alex`s place, Kevin was following their steps very closely. Alex had to get a friend from the airport so he let his kids with Katie; he didn’t know it but Kevin was there too. All Kevin wanted to do was kill Alex and take Erin back home with him. There was no time to do both, so he decided to just kill everyone, including the kids. He waited for all the lights to go off and crated a fire in the house. Katie was asleep and in her dream, Jo was telling her to wake up! She was just in time to save kids and herself, but when they got out, Kevin was there, drunk and holding a gun. She got the kids to scape and she faced the devil. There was a violent fight, Kevin died. He bled to death and had just too much alcohol in his system. After a couple of nights in the hospital, everyone was okay, and Katie could finally say it was over, even though it wasn’t. A safe was saved from the fire, and Alex gave Katie an unseen letter. It was from Carly, Alex`s dead wife, called by her friends Jo. Here she stated that she is glad that Alex found someone and her kids found a mother. And then Katie understood, Jo, her friend was Carly´s sprit. She was her guardian angel; she saved her from the fire and her past. Carly was her only friend, she might not exit physically, but she was there, somewhere, watching out for her new family.

Katie and Alex had a fight, their first real one, with yelling and screaming. The next morning she regarded many of the things she had said and had no idea what to do and decided to talk to Jo. She told her that she was just in time to apologize.
“It is never too late to do the right thing” (259).
This is the simple and honest truth. Doing the right things doesn’t have an expiration date, because when it comes to apologizing or make up things, there is never an exact or predetermined date for it. As long as the correct thing somehow done, then everything is okay. People appreciate the apologize more than the time and place it is being said.

After the fire, Alex lost almost everything he owned or had. The store was destroyed as well. Toys, furniture, TVs, tables, windows, clothes, etc. But, what do all of these things have in common? They are all material things.

“But you lost everything.” “Not everything,” he said. “Not the important things. My kids are safe. You´re safe. That is all I care about. This” – he said motioning—“is just stuff” (326).

At the end of the day, what matters are not stuff or material things, people are the ones that matter. Materials can always be replaced. People, not at all. Clothes will fit differently in just a matter of time. Loved ones will always fit right in the heart. Cellphones will eventually stop working, pencils will break or get lost, money will come and go. People will stay forever.

I loved this book; it taught me so much about life. Things are happening, women are suffering. Some marriages are not working; some men are mean and abusive. But also wonderful things are happening like love. There are happy families and happy couples. There are people looking out for me for me from a better place. And, finally, I learned that there is always hope.
